On August 25, Wang Jianfeng, secretary of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee, met with Prof. Arieh Warshel, a Nobel laureate in Chemistry, and his delegation to exchange views on further deepening cooperation.
Wang Jianfeng extended a welcome on behalf of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee and the Changzhou Municipal People’s Government, and briefly introduced the economic and social development of Changzhou. He noted that Changzhou has built its development on manufacturing, and is currently vigorously advancing industries such as new energy, biomedicine, and artificial intelligence. As the first innovation demonstration park jointly established by the Chinese and Israeli governments through a signed agreement, the China-Israel Changzhou Innovation Park (CICP) has, over the years, introduced 328 Israeli-owned and China-Israel cooperative enterprises, and facilitated 66 China-Israel science and technology cooperation projects—with a notable proportion focusing on the life science industry. Wang expressed hope that Prof. Warshel would continue to follow the progress of cooperation at the China-Israel Park, as well as the development of Changzhou's life science and AI industries. He invited Warshel to provide professional advice for building the innovation ecosystem of the CICP and the city, and to help introduce more international innovation projects, talent, and resources to support Changzhou's high-quality development.
Prof. Warshel stated that Changzhou boasts a solid industrial foundation, remarkable achievements in scientific and technological innovation, well-developed R&D platforms and supporting facilities, and immense potential for growth. He pledged to make every effort to promote cooperation between Israeli innovation resources and Changzhou, and to facilitate the translation of scientific and technological achievements into practical applications.
Prof. Warshel specializes in research on computational simulation and interpretation of complex biological macromolecules, and is recognized as one of the founders of modern computational simulations for biological molecular processes. In 2013, he shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry with two U.S. scientists for joint "development of multiscale models for complex chemical systems", which advanced fundamental understanding of molecular and chemical reactions and significantly impacted industries such as pharmaceuticals, chemistry, and environmental protection.
During this visit to Changzhou, Prof. Warshel was appointed as a member of the CICP Expert Advisory Committee.
While in Changzhou, Warshel and his delegation visited key sites including the CICP, the Changzhou International AI Community, the Eastern Center of the National Health and Medical Big Data Research Institute, and the Guoguang Information Industrial Park, and delivered a keynote lecture.
